Band of the Day: Dohny Jep

Back on home soil after a bunch of overseas bands recently, with interestingly-monikered rock merchants Dohny Jep…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are all from different places within Kent, UK.

How did you meet?

Stuart and Wayne were introduced during freshers week at uni as they both had metal band T-shirts on (it was love at first sight). Later on in the year they were looking for a drummer to join a new project coming together and Rowan was the perfect choice. Many years later Pete and Stuart met because they were both dating twin sisters, after they were introduced to each other and finding out that they both shared the same love for music and wanting to play to a huge audience, it was inevitable that Dohny Jep was to eventually form!

How long have you been playing as a band?

Since February 2019.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

Haha! It’s all good, ask away. Stuart had the band name idea for years, even before meeting Pete and as we were sifting through band names as every band struggles with, Dohny Jep just worked for our sound. But Pete didn’t want to simply just spell it Donny Jepp, he wanted for it to be a little different and here we are!

What are your influences?

Don Broco, Bring Me The Horizon, Pvris, Twenty One Pilots, 1975, Nothing But Thieves

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We offer a fresh approach to heavy, melodic rock with catchy sing along and head banging vibes!

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

No one particular theme no, each song has its own feelings and meanings that we have wanted to get across, but also for the listener to interpret it in their own way too.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We are yet to hit the stage…You can blame Covid-19 for that! We had shows planned from early April but yes, unfortunately this stuff has happened but we are totally excited to get out there and hit the road again as we had been working on a really cool set up for the live shows!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

In a past band one of the supporting bands on the event decided that it would be a laugh to strip down to their birthday suits and play the show….

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Pete uses a Schecter Hellraiser bass guitar with an Ampeg amplifier and a modded fender rumble 100 cab. He also uses a Darkglass pedal which produces unreal tones!

Stuart Uses a Kemper profiler amp with GGD Kemper profiles and a 2×12 cab, he uses Tokai guitars but primarily a Tokai Telecaster (Breezysound)

Wayne uses an LTD MH350NT guitar and recently upgraded his kit with a Line 6 Helix to step into the digital age! haha

Rowan’s live set up consists of Mapex drums, Sabian cymbals and Vik Firth American classic sticks. Whereas in his recording set up he uses a Roland TD11 drum kit and Invasion drum pack by Get Good Drums.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We recently released our new single Dreamer which is from our debut album L.U.S.T ( set for release on July 10th) so that is what we are currently pushing out to people to hear and see! You can check out our single Dreamer here (https://lnk.to/DoB2Bv)

What are your plans for 2020?

To survive the pandemic and then play an absolute crap load of shows!

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
