Band of the Day: Black Sun Brotherhood

Norway. Land of scary gods, very long winters and people who make scary music…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are three bloodsucking freaks from the unholy hellhole also known to the world as: Norway.

How did you meet?

We met the same way all Norwegians meet: during a totally savage pagan ritual/human sacrifice/orgy. After this we really hit it off and felt we had to form a band (2013).

How long have you been playing as a band?

We have been kicking ass and taking names since 2013 😊

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

The Black Sun symbol and concept comes from alchemy. That is the origin. We added “Brotherhood” to the mix because we thought that sounded cool and brutal… hehe…

What are your influences?

All kinds of cool, dark/brutal and real music. Sex, violence, darkness and death – and the general madness of the human condition.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

I think it’s hard for a band to claim to be unique in this day and age. There are a bazillion bands out there today, and most things have been done already ad nauseam. However, I think we have a different blend of different types of metal and hard rock, so we always think about developing our own sound. Apart from other metal bands, we are unique in the sense that all sexy bitches love us to death and we have savage, giant cocks. You might think this piece of information is irrelevant to your wonderful readers, but I beg to differ: because all sexy bitches love mammoth cocks. Well, we are also unique in the sense that we are more evil, more extreme and more true than all other silly poser bands of this pathetic world of course.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Mostly Hell, Satan, etc., etc.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Yeah, well we have played 3 gigs only – but we sure kicked everybody’s ass really. It was superb!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Hmm…  good question! I remember seeing Porno for Pyros at the Roskilde festival in Denmark many years ago. On stage they had The Jim Rose Circus Sideshow with them, and that was some pretty wild shit. Basically, a lot of torture and lesbian sex. Not bad, not bad at all! Anyway, in terms of musical magic I remember seeing Morbid Angel live several times back in the day with their original line up, and that was some seriously mind-blowing shit. They really were an incredible death metal band, they just crushed it in every way. Few bands could ever touch them – another level completely. I really think they deserve their legend status.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Sorry brother, but I am not really a gear slut, so I can’t even answer that question properly. I am just not too much into the technology side of things. I write the music; the lyrics and I am sort of the prime mover of the band… I enjoy playing and I do not care so much about the gear. I play a Fender jazz bass myself and that is a fine instrument. As for our guitarist he has a million guitars and he is mixing it up all the time. And I mean all the fucking time. Our drummer plays on drums made of hellish metal with sticks of human bones. The drum skins are made of real human skin too! True fucking story! It’s the Norwegian way!

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We have a new single out on Spotify and all kinds of digital platforms like YouTube, etc. It is called “Ecstasy of Blasphemy”, and y’all should check it out asap because it is a friggin masterpiece in all modesty.

What are your plans for 2020?

We are going keep on rocking and rolling my friend!

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Cool questions man! Our first concert we opened for the Norwegian masters of death metal: EXECRATION. This band is pure dynamite, and they are actually not as well-known as they deserve to be. Their stuff absolutely kills everything – mad cool stuff – and superb live band also. You peepholes should definitely check out their albums. My personal favourite album of theirs is “Morbid Dimensions”. If we were to play live with some other exciting bands, I think we should play a concert with Chelsea Wolfe and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. That would be real blast. I just chose those two bands because they are among my favourite bands right now. Love their stuff!
