Band of the Day: Redeye Caravan

Roll up! The Redeye Caravan is in town and they’re here to tell you all about themselves…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Howdy! First of all, we would like to thank you for having us. The band is located in Livadeia (Viotia, Greece), a small town near Athens.

How did you meet?

We‘ve known each other for many years, we‘ve shared the stage with other music projects too and we’ve been friends ever since.

How long have you been playing as a band?

We started rehearsing and creating the songs during the fall of 2018.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

We are glad that most people ask questions about our name! “Redeye” was, at the time, a euphemism for whiskey as well as the time of departure of many caravans before dawn, for long trips. “Caravan” because our music is the result of a collaboration of seven personalities.

What are your influences?

We are mostly inspired by stories and we try to capture the atmosphere and balance between lyrics and music! The whole range of rock / country / blues / bluegrass and cinematic music shapes our music direction.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

The basic idea is to share our stories! We are 7 friends and we are trying to get these stories out of our system in the best and most cathartic way!

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Every single song is a story in our world, a world we created and try to expand day by day. A world full of happiness, death, monsters and haunting creatures.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

At the moment we are getting ready for our live performances. Soon we’ll share our stories with the Caravan’s friends!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

We like to think that when it comes to music, nothing is wild! But, if we’re being honest, we find it hard to consider something “wild” in any live show. It’s 2020, most wild things have already happened during the ’70s & ‘80s and nowadays it’s really hard to be edgy in any way. Of course there are really impressive shows, with special effects etc, but –  at this point – we’d just like to create a memorable atmosphere and make people travel with our Caravan!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

During the recordings, we used various instruments and amps, as well as recording methods, always having in mind to deliver an old school live feeling, which supports the cinematic atmosphere of the songs. Now, in live concerts – and since you can’t go wrong with the classics! – there’s going to be a lot of Fender, Cort and Pearl going on!

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We just released our second video clip of our recent LP, Nostrum Remedium, “Good Man Richard”. On top of that, the CD’s of our record have also just arrived and we’re really happy now since we can share our music in physical form!

What are your plans for 2020?

Well, we are planning on presenting Nostrum Remedium live and also create new songs, for there are so many stories left untold!

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

We‘d like to share the stage with every single artist or band that would like to share it with us! We are very fond of bands and artists like The Dead South, Graveyard Train, The Builders and The Butchers, Colter Wall and Blues Saraceno.
