Honey Hayze just recently released their new single “Zombie” and lead guitarist Rory is now here to tell us a bit more about themselves…
I’m English but the band is based in Australia.
How did you meet?
Parties and skate park sessions back in 2018.
How long have you been playing as a band?
Two years, and our second birthday was wild – let’s see if we can top it next year.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
What are your influences?
Cannabis mostly, and bands like The Rolling Stones, INXS, The Doors, Sleepy Sun, this list could go on forever.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Screaming guitar solos juxtaposed with catchy riffs and choruses, with a blending of bass and drums driving a powerful sound for the Sax and Vox to tear over the top.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Sex, drugs, rock ‘n’ roll. Sex, and drugs again.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Lively. Our mates in blue always seem to follow us around flashing their badges, but we usually get a good few hours of debauchery in before then.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Where do we start? The wet T-shirt contests, the free alcohol and merch being launched to frothing crowds, one of our girlfriends showing up to her first show of ours only to cop a garden chair to the head, and then she walked in on a large kitchen knife covered in a suspect white powder being passed around our noses – nobody was hurt but take it from me, don’t trust Earl’s shaky hands.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Fender Telecaster, various amps (Vox&Fender), pedals from Boss and Fender.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
Our new single “Zombie” which is out now.
What are your plans for 2020?
Continue our tour of the East coast of Australia, leaving destruction and hangovers wherever we play.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
Goons of Doom and The Rolling Stones.
