Band of the Day: Black Sun Ωmega

Heading to Greece today (as you might guess from the band name!), as we check out Black Sun Ωmega…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We’re from Greece, a northwest city called Patras.

How did you meet?

Two of us have been playing together for many years as friends. The other two were found through the local music scene. You know, you go to a live and see a good player, you approach him to play to your band.

How long have you been playing as a band?

We started playing in November 2018. We turned out to have a very good chemistry, the four of us, which allowed for a rapid progress in terms of songwriting and feeling when playing.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

The very last, mutated, sick sun that we will ever see. The natural after effect of Mankind’s effort to exploit his natural habitat to its maximum and beyond, through nuclear or microbiological means. It’s basically nature’s eleventh-hour attempt to purge the last, most parasitic virus. All of us. Simply, nastily and revengefully.

What are your influences?

Most of the metal scene architects such as Slayer, Venom, Exodus, Death and many others,as well as modern elements, that we are not afraid to incorporate to our sound.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

As mentioned above, we tend to blend the in-your-face mentality of the thrash sound, without sticking to labels. We let our creativity run free, and if the result is satisfying, we make a song out of it. We are open minded to more modern elements, that we believe can also attract a larger audience to our sound.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Mostly society problems, warfare but there are some references on apocalyptic scenes as well

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We have played just several  live shows  until now, which had a very energetic response from the audience. Shouting, sweating and moshing was and we strive to have as our live shows’ atmosphere.

We were highly occupied with doing our best to put our album and ourselves out with the highest quality of work possible. Here to forth, we aim to spread our message and our sound as far and wide as possible.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

As far as I remember, one of the wildest things I’ve ever done, is jumping on the crowd while playing and getting into the pit… The whole thing left a few scars on my favorite guitar though…

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Personally ,I have a spark on B.C Rich guitars… There are hundreds of decent guitars out on the market but couldn’t stick with one of them for long. By the way, I own three of them and take turns on which one to play with on rehearsals/gigs/recordings…

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We are not endorsed by anyone at the moment, since it still the very  beginning for us and we try to plan things as carefully as possible. All four of us are quite decisive as characters and very enthusiastic at the same time, although we try not to make hasty decisions.

What are your plans for 2020?

Performance-wise, we aim to get known much more, by playing in big festivals that share our passion to play energetic, passionate metal. We are also planning a European tour in the winter. Stay tuned!

Media-wise, we plan on getting some video clip material on new songs out, by autumn.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

This is a tough one! Since we are talking about live, I’d say probably Exodus with me in the middle of the wall of death during “strike of the beast”..

As for the band I’d choose to open for us, would be definitely Ritual of Odds. Besides the energy they show on gigs, these guys are dear, close personal friends of ours.
