Band of the Day: Hilltops Are For Dreamers

Time to regale you all with another new artist, this time based in the UofK…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

The two main members of the band are from Patras, Greece. However, Vas is based in London where the band is actually based. We do have a clean vocalist as a guest in that album and he is from London.

How did you meet?

Vas and Dionysus met around 2010 in Patras, Greece where both played in the metalcore act From Zero To Hero until 2012. However, after 6 years of a break, we started playing again around 2018.

Additionally, Vas was blessed enough to work together with Mike B. in London who is performing our clean vocals on the album.

How long have you been playing as a band?

We are playing together for the last 2 years as Hilltops Are For Dreamers.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

Vas loves great views, hills and mountains and always felt that a great view could make you feel unknown and strong emotions. So, the name of the band could represent all those people who are willing to climb (literally or not) ‘walls’ to see what’s there and beyond and dream of the unknown or stare and just fulfil their souls.

What are your influences?

We love Thrice. Also, post hardcore bands like Alexisonfire. You could find some KSE elements into our sound too. However, we are not limited to that and we really love the melancholy of the Scandinavian sound and melodic death metal or atmospheric metal too.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We believe that we bring a unique touch on the genre because we mix some blues, jazzy bits with the metal and post hardcore sound. Just listen to e.g. ‘Even If I Sin’ outro.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Hope, love, anger, self-criticism, sarcasm, social topics, positivity.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We haven’t played any shows yet. The reason is that this project started as remote UK-Greece act with the goal to create powerful music. Now, we are in the process of gathering all these people together who are needed for a full line up so to work around live gigs.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

I’ve seen someone jumping from the balcony to the crowd a floor below it. ADTR show in Portsmouth, 2014.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

  • Guitars: Ibanez RG Prestige, Squier Strat
  • Bass Guitar: LTD
  • Drums: Yamaha DTXplorer, Yamaha set, Gibraltar pedal

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Promoting the EP as much as we can so to build a fan base and get ready for the next steps.

What are your plans for 2020?

Promotion, promotion, promotion. A music video for the song “You Are Not Alone” is going to be out quite soon. We are planning to shoot another one and release it around May. We are also writing a full album with a target release date around August 2020.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

We would like to support Thrice! Celene (our bassist’s band) could be the opening act for sure.
