Late night for most of our local audience, but these guys will probably just be getting out of bed before hopping on a kangaroo to get to work…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Melbourne, Australia!
How did you meet?
Myself and Rick are father and son. Been playing together since the long long ago and been lucky to have some rad bassists join us along the journey.
How long have you been playing as a band?
7 years now.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
Ooooft, from memory we saw a Jim’s mowing trailer and thought it’d be a lot cooler if it was just called “Grasshole Trimming”.
What are your influences?
Stage dives & high fives.
Describe your music?
We like to mix it up and grab a bunch of influences from punk to stoner rock to garage and fuzzy grunge.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Used to focus a little more on politics and environmental themes. Mainly these days it’s about love lived and lost, waking up to the reality of the world. It’s a jungle out there.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
High energy and sillllly. Close to 350 around the world would be my guess?
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
I saw Dylan Alcott crowd surf in his chair for Queens of the Stone Age at Soundwave a few years ago. That was insane, loved it!
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Rick uses an older Tama Superstar and a fat Ludwig, they both sound wicked. Zildjian and Sabian cymbals, Vic Firth sticks. I’m a massive ho for equipment to be honest. Lately loving my Fender Telecaster, Dr Scientist Pedals, Vox AC30 and a bajillion fuzz pedals.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We have our album tour getting announced in the next week or so. Will take place across Australia in April and May!
What are your plans for 2020?
Get on the end of some frostys, play some shows, get a bit reckless and take the ‘Hole back overseas!
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
Supporting I’d love to have The Distillers, Us then a headline filthfest featuring The Bronx… Them or The Wiggles cause things would just get super weird.
