We’ve come across the noise merchants of Divine Chaos before – in 2015 and 2017. It’s about time we caught up with them again and found out what they’re up to now!
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Originally Slough but now we live all over the country.
How did you meet?
The original line up met at Download festival in 2005. Two Slough metal crews united!
How long have you been playing as a band?
Started rehearing late 2005, our first show was in 2006.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
Our original vocalist came up with it, it fitted what we were about.
What are your influences?
Consistently over the years Metallica, Testament, Sepultura, Slayer, Symphony X, The Haunted, Death, Nevermore.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Anything goes with our sound, we try to vary things up as much as possible. We love old school song writing but try to keep the sound solid and heavy. We play 7-string guitars, too, which is kind of un-thrash to a degree. People say we have a recognisable sound, not exactly sure what that makes it. Maybe we’re repeating ourselves!?
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Mostly the big three: War, Religion, Politics. We have started branching out somewhat on the new album trying to keep the lyrics less specific and more open to interpretation.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Played many shows, in the high hundreds. We love playing live, we try and keep it tight and precise.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
It’s more after the shows where it all gets a bit raucous! Our old favourite was getting audience members to try capsaicin (pure chili extract).
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Ibanez guitars (7 String), Ernie Ball strings, Bareface bass amps, Warwick basses, Czarcie Kopyto pedals, Tama drums.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
Our latest single “Serpent Words” and our upcoming album The Way To Oblivion. More videos coming before the album release.
What are your plans for 2020?
Get the album released and back on the road! We have a few great gigs confirmed for 2020 including the UK Techfest.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
Would love to support Testament and good opening bands would be someone like Reprisal, Endeavour, Shrapnel… go check them out if you haven’t already!
From previous Band of the Day, Khaidian: Do you believe metal should challenge the listener?
Not as a general rule, so many boundaries have been broken in metal now that maybe best to just concentrate on the songwriting.
From another BotD, Not Ur Girlfrenz: What was the first concert you ever went to?
First metal concert was Ozzfest 1998.
And from She Burns Red: What is the one thing that really annoys you about being in a band?
Everything other than playing shows and being in the studio.
