Getting all proggy on you for your Sunday.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are all from the beautiful county of Cornwall.
How did you meet?
Alex and Lewis were friends before the original lineup needed a new drummer. Doug played bass in a 60s/70s cover band and when the original bass player left Alex and Lewis head-hunted Doug to be the replacement.
How long have you been playing as a band?
The current lineup has been together for 2 years, the band has been playing for 5 years in total.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
The name was us trying to think of something that implied our genre whilst mixing horror and sci-fi.
What are your influences?
Hawkwind, Sabbath, King Gizzard, Red Fang, Sleep and most 60s-70s prog.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We think we have a unique mix of styles and themes. We wanted the music to sound like space so lots of thick riffs with phaser and effects.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Lyrics about space, philosophy and horror. Sometimes sci-fi movies or sometimes our own sci-fi stories!
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Our live show can get pretty trippy. Lots of amps, projector showing old movies and psychedelic scenes. We’ve now played exactly 185 shows!
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
We saw a guy dressed up as a velociraptor once. That was pretty great.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Lewis uses a Mapex Saturn with Sabina cymbals, Doug uses Hiwatt and Sound City amplifiers and Rickenbacker basses and EHX pedals, Alex uses Orange amps and Gibson guitars with a mix of pedals. (We’re releasing a rig run down video soon so keep an eye on YouTube!)
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We’ve got our new album, Absurdum ad Nauseam, coming out on December 6th! So lots of videos and bits on the way!
What are your plans for 2019/2020?
We’re thinking of running a Kickstarter to get the latest album on vinyl! And more touring. Also get back into writing again for the next release!
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
We’d love to support King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. And we’d love to get Lacertilia opening!
