Sunday isn’t complete without a dose of rock’n’roll. Here to top up your levels are The Erotics…
How did you meet?
We pretty much know each other from being in the same scene in our area, it was quite easy to get together and find fellas to be on board with my ‘vision’ or lack of!
How long have you been playing as a band?
Since, 1996, I”m the sole member of the first incarnation, Johnny(drummer) has been with us for over 15 years, Doug(guitarist) going on 4 years, and Tony, our new bass player has been with us since November 2018!
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
From a Halloween Episode from The Simpsons, 1995, the end scene Home ended up in an alternate dimension, and he was in a bakery called “Erotic Cakes’. I jokingly said that should be the name of the new band I was forming, and somehow just shortened it to The Erotics.
What are your influences?
Alice Cooper, Kiss, Aerosmith, ACDC, Motley Crue, then comes the punk bands like Dead Boys, Ramones, Misfits, etc.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We’re a mixed blend of classic rock, sleaze, and punk, which makes an interesting combination. We’re too punk for the hard rock crowd, and too hard rock for the punk crowd!
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Varies actually, can be about the angels to demons or sex, debauchery, sometimes horror, even sometimes a heartfelt ballad.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Lot of sweat, sometimes blood, energy for sure, literally probably played thousands of gigs at this point, the past year we play Hard Rock Hell Sleaze II and the inaugural Call Of The Wild Festival, and just got back from playing some West Coast California dates.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Getting piss drunk and not remembering before the gig, been on my best behaviour lately though!
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
I’ve been playing the same SG since 2002, which has sentimental value, as the person that gave me the guitar as an Xmas gift is no longer with us, and the person who custom made the guitar has passed recently as well.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We just released a new album back in May called “The Songs Remain Deranged”.
What are your plans for the rest of 2019 and into 2020?
Right now, we’re already working on new tunes to hopefully record in February 2020, to have released by Summer 2020, and as far as gigging just playing a few east coast/regional gigs throughout the rest of 2019 just to stay busy, and probably do more extensive touring again in spring/summer 2020.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
I would say supporting the Supersuckers, with us in the middle and probably if it’s the UK I would say Takeaway Thieves or back home in the US probably Prophets Of Addiction or Midnight Devils.
