All the way from the land of pasta and some pretty decent wine are today’s Band of the Day, atWood…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Milan, Italy.
How did you meet?
We met by chance, when Daniele, our guitar player, posted on Facebook that he was looking for musicians. The rest is history.
How long have you been playing as a band?
Since 2017, but we spent a few months playing reimagined covers, and then a year writing our EP. We played our first show in March 2019.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
People often ask us if it has anything to do with woods or novels (Margaret Atwood), but it’s nothing fancy. Does the name Ryan Atwood ring any bells?
What are your influences?
Mainly Paramore, Pvris, BMTH and Hands Like Houses.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Our blend of alternative rock, pop, electronica and bits of metal here and there.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
We do: strain, distress and longing for freedom from other people’s chains and ropes which permeate “Black Mirror”, our single, and at odds as an EP.
What’s your live show like?
How many shows have you played? Our live shows are energetic and passionate, and we’ve played like 30 so far.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
I’ve seen a guy in his 30s being carried over people’s heads in a stroller.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
We have 2 PCs, an audio card, the Behringer X32 Rack, Native Instruments machine mikro m2, Roland SPD pad. As for guitar, Custom telecaster guitar, Delay and reverb pedals, Strymon timeline. Bass is custom as well. Orange cab and head. Drum has Diril Cymbals. Mics are Sennheiser e945 and the classic Shure SM58. Sometimes we manage to play live with our Shure in-ear monitor system, which we always use to practice.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We’ve been promoting our single and EP for a few months, and will be promoting our upcoming single from October onwards.
What are your plans for the rest of 2019 and into 2020?
We plan on releasing a new single and video, but our priority is playing as many shows as possible.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
We’d love to play before Billie Eilish and to have Halflives support us.
