Band of the Day: The Emma Garell Band

It’s the end of the working week and we’ve got a doozy for you.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Richmond, Virginia.

How did you meet?

CJ Alicea (drums) and I met at School of Rock, he was one of my teachers. Sammy P. Stiles (bass) and I met at The Camel in Richmond where he was a bouncer and I played there with my old cover band. And our newest member Camden Harrahy on guitar, we met at School of Rock in 2015 when we were in a Black Sabbath tribute show together.

How long have you been playing as a band?

Since September 2018.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

It is my name. We looked long and hard for the right band name, but enough time had gone by that my name just stuck and we don’t think it would be a good idea to change it at this point.

What are your influences?

The Pretty Reckless, Black Sabbath, Joan Jett, Led Zeppelin, & Highly Suspect.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

I think my music is a mixture of RATM and Black Sabbath had a baby… I don’t really know anymore. That I am a young female making music with an old sound.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

No, all my songs are so different. Once you hear the others you will know what I mean.

How many shows have you played?

Pfoof… I don’t even know, I’ve been playing shows regularly since I was 15. So I would say a lot.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

I don’t do anything outrageous, but the craziest show I’ve been to was Highly Suspect. Craziness on the stage and craziness in the audience. It was  a little out of control for sure.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

I don’t play any instruments really, just enough to be familiar with them. I like performing with just a mic in my hand, I think an instrument would be too distracting for everyone.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Our single “Destination Anaheim” music video. Check it out on our Youtube or Facebook [or below! – Mosh].

What are your plans for the rest of 2019/2020?

Wrap up a couple more singles, another music video and start doing some shows closer to our new guitarist. Camden is in school in Nashville, and it may be easier for us to come to him sometimes. As far as 2020, hopefully doing a tour.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Another Day Dawns headlining and Kill the Druid opening.

What is your dream venue to play?

The National, since it is my hometown and where I have grown up as an audience member.
