Band of the Day: Floorboards

Short but sweet and tongue-in-cheek? Sold.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We all live in Cheltenham, UK.

How did you meet?

We all met at different pubs on separate occasions.

How long have you been playing as a band?

The current line-up have been playing together officially since the start of this year.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

It’s a song by a band called Real Friends.

What are your influences?

Title Fight, Basement, Superheaven, Pinegrove, and to be fair pretty much everything else as well!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We don’t actually think our music is that unique to be fair, we just play music that we’d like to listen to ourselves, so it’s kind of like fair play.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

We do have common lyrical themes and in some songs we even use the same lyrics because I thought they were good in that one so why not maybe, that other one too?

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

To be honest, the line-up of floorboards had a switcheroo so before that we’ve played loads of shows and since we’ve had the new guys in we’ve also lost count. We’ve just started really pushing this year to get better and push our music a little more so that’s come with playing lots of rock and roll concerts. Also our rock concerts kick ass.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

At our friend’s and Jamie’s previous band, Ten Tombs, last show we bore witness to Jamie’s aunt, who is in her 60s, crowd surf. And the way she went into the crowd was in the form of a trust fall.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Allow me to elaborate:

  • Jay – Fender Telecaster guitar, Fender Mustang 3 amplifier
  • Jamie – Fender Jazzmaster guitar, Marshall head and FX pedals
  • Marcus – Fender jazz bass guitar American, Kemper profiler
  • Tom Harrison – Travis Smith signature kit, some Zildjian and some Sabian cymbals

Hello, Fender!

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We have a new single out with another track too. You can find it under “One for Sorrow & Low” on major streaming platforms and also a music video on YouTube for “Low”.

What are your plans for 2019?

We plan to play as many shows as we can and basically sell out as soon as we get a good offer

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

We think Title Fight would be great to support because Jamie has one of their t-shirts and also our mate Jack Bevan plays under the alias Roped In and he’ll break your heart because he writes lovely songs about dreams and being bored. He has supported us in the past and Jack, if you’re reading, we’d love for you to do it again.
