Band of the Day: Danny Beardsley

Recently, we featured The Parallax Method as part of our #RoadToBOA2019 series so now we’re delving into the life of one of their members.

Simple things first – where are you from?

I grew up in a small Derbyshire town called Ilkeston. I have since moved to Nottingham.

How long have you been playing?

I have been playing for 23 years and counting.

What are your main influences?

A tough one to shortlist but I’d probably start with; Queen, Big Wreck, Eric Johnson, Incubus, Guthrie Govan, Devin Townsend, Chris Cornell, Simon McBride, Newton Faulkner, Myles Kennedy, Three Wise Monkeys but the list really does go on…!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

An honest painting of my inner thoughts. A journal with melody. With my music I try to incorporate my love for interesting melodies and technical guitar playing with good songwriting. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel, I’m just trying to be the best songwriter I can possibly be and hopefully connect with others on some sort of level.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Lyrically the album is based around my efforts to understand who I am. Self analysis and life experiences. I also draw on the experiences of others around me.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

With my current and previous bands I’ve played lots of shows but this will be the first time doing it solo. To be honest it was never my intention to play this album live. I just wanted to get it out there for people to hear. However, that said, I am being swayed to getting out there an playing it live. I can only hope that when the time is right the live show will live up to the standard of the album and the music connects with the audience in a sincere way. Fingers crossed!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

I would love to be able to give you an interesting answer but I’m not much of a wild type. More mild than the wild! In fact my wife still laughs about the fact that around the time we first met we were backstage at a festival I was playing with a previous band, Isolysis. It was in Ibiza, it was about 2am and we were waiting to go on stage. There was plenty of sex, drugs and rock n roll going on around me but I was sitting on a sofa in the corner doing a word search. See – mild. Sorry!

What guitars do you play / etc.?

I use Paul Reed Smith Guitars and have done for many many years.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

The release of my debut solo album, Blood From A Stone.

What are your plans for 2019?

As mentioned it was never my intention to play this solo stuff live but I am working on developing the material for live shows. I have also started work on album number two. My instrumental three piece prog band The Parallax Method are currently in the middle of recording our new album. We have a couple of shows booked for the Summer too. Bloodstock Festival and also a support slot with Thank you Scientist.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

To support Big Wreck would be a dream come true. Support from Three Wise Monkeys. All the way from Australia. They are awesome!
