Band of the Day: Mick N Phil

Whilst we pride our Band of the Day on being as international as possible, we’re at the other end of the spectrum and today’s act is as local as it gets (for some of us)…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from Glasgow.

How did you meet?

At birth – we are twin brothers.

How long have you been playing as a band?

Since early 2013.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

We had a gig and didn’t have a name so when the promoter asked our name we simply said we are Mick N Phil.

What are your influences?

We have many but we’d say Tyler Hilton, Daughtry, Luke Combs, Kip Moore, Dan and Shay and The Goo Goo Dolls

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We feel we are unique because we have a bond that is very hard to come by as artists. When singing together, our voices are very alike and is like harmonising with yourself. Also we have a sound that is very unusual in the country/pop scene, we feel.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Definitely love, hurt and anything life-related and we love being honest when writing music.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We don’t have the exact number but probably near the 1000 mark.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

The sound went one night at a show so we went into the middle of the  crowd and sang acoustic with them for the rest of the set. One of the best gigs of our lives – they sang every word.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Mick has an Epiphone J200 called Mel that he claims is like family to him but we are definitely Fender/Epiphone guys at heart.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We have a new EP self-titled Mick N Phil coming out end of August 2019 and we just had a show on 30th June in Glasgow’s Nice N Sleazy.

What are your plans for 2019?

To play and release as much music as we can and hopefully go down south for a few shows, if possible.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

We would love to open for Kip Moore or Tyler Hilton as their music blends with ours very well hence them being huge idols to us. It’s tough to say who we’d pick to open for us but we’d love the Sinsheimers to open for us.
