Band of the Day: Giant & the Georges

With a name sounding like a riff on a fairy tale, these guys have some decent riffs of their own…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are based in Stourbridge which is in the Black Country, UK.

How did you meet?

Growing up, brothers Ben and Sam had always performed together, so when their younger sister brought home fellow musician Luke, it seemed only logical to form a supergroup!

How long have you been playing as a band?

We have performing together as Giant and the Georges for just over a year now.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

The band was actually formed by two brothers, Ben and Sam (the Georges) who then met relatively tall bass guitarist, Luke (the Giant). Thus, Giant and the Georges were born!

What are your influences?

The Beatles, Pixies, Jimi Hendrix, Arctic Monkeys, Nirvana, Red Hot Chili Peppers and many more!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Zingy hook lines, tangy riffs and vocal harmonies sweeter than honey! Our sound is very diverse; we try to keep our setlists of versatile as possible in order to keep our audiences hooked. However, you will be sure to hear screaming lead guitar, thunderous bass lines and mesmerizing harmonies throughout.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

We are inspired by the world around us! Sometimes we’ll just write a cheesy love song, while other times of our songs may focus on issues of war, politics and corruption.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We are dynamic performers who love to put on a show and interact with the crowd. Come and see us to find out! I think we have played just over 60 gigs so far.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

We’ve seen some pretty wild things happen at gigs but will not be admitting to anything we’ve done personally!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Our guitarists play with PRS, Gibson SG and a Fender Telecaster, with our bassist playing a Fender Jaguar. Our drummer prefers his Tama drum kit but has been known to dabble with Pearl. We also love playing through VOX amps!

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Friday 28th June we release our fourth studio single “Blind Love”. After working extremely hard in the studio, we are confident this our best track so far! “Blind Love” will be available on all major digital music platforms so make sure you check it out! We may also be in the process of planning a UK tour… hopefully see you all soon.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

It would be an absolute dream come true to support the Pixies! There is also this amazing band from Brighton called ‘Black Honey’ but I doubt we could ask them to play before us!
