We’ve encountered this band of mad metal maniacs before, but we’ve not BotD’d them. Time to address that…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
London!
How did you meet?
The first line up of the band was formed with two friends and they found Jack through the internet. Scott forced himself in by telling us we needed another guitar player and wouldn’t leave us alone. Alex joined soon after, as he knew Jack and we found Marco and Andreas through other London metal bands.
How long have you been playing as a band?
Altogether the band has been together since 2011. Our currently line up is little over a year old and the best so far!
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
Municipal Waste have a song called “Bangover” but it also means having a sore neck after too much head banging… but we’re sure you already knew that.
What are your influences?
Your usual thrash influence, the Big 4 bands but we’re super into Evile, Suicide Angels, Annihilator, Power Trip, Havok, Gama Bomb, Testament, etc. and all the cheesy ballads your mum likes.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Tongue in cheek metal, we don’t take ourselves seriously at all but you can still get down with heavy grooves and songs that next never seem to slow down.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
No particular themes but we’ve covered a shovel wielding serial killer, Laurence of Arabia and Grand Moff Tarkin (Commander of the Death Star).
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Fast, Heavy and Fun. Usually drunk but you always have a good time. Hundreds of shows at this point if we had to guess.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
We played Bloodstock Open Air in 2017 and we managed to get a circle pit going around the entire Jagermeister stage, pizza was flying everywhere! Eventually having a couple of us carried over to the main stage and handed over the security barrier. That was insane!!!
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Jackson and Ibanez guitars, Kemper amps, Fender Bass and whatever drums Marco is able to get hold of.
What are your plans for 2019?
Keep pumping the new album, Shovel Butcher, available everywhere you can find! (Buy it, stream it, steal it, as long as you listen to it) Play more shows, get more attention and ‘responsibly’ drink along the way.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
Too many to choose from but we’d love to support Evile/Havok and have our boys in Anoxide open up. Brutal death metal, check em out!
