A belated article – our apologies to the band – but demand for BotD space is high! Still, their new album is still out there and I’m sure Scream Blue Murder will tell you all about it…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We originate from Coventry #sisuout but our guitarist jack is from the other side of the wall.
How did you meet?
Jamie and Aaron are brothers and met when Aaron popped out of his mum and instantly offered Jamie a beer. Other than that we’re all mates from the sesh.
How long have you been playing as a band?
SBM was formed in 2014 so it’s been a few years of hard work and dedication but we’re having the best time while doing it!
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
So Scream Blue Murder is to make an extravagant protest. We’re to go against the norm and the ‘system’. We’re here to do what we wanna do and if you ain’t about that we don’t give a fuck we’re doing it anyway.
What are your influences?
We listen to all types of music from metal to rock to pop to rap literally anything.
I’d say our biggest influence is definitely Bring Me The Horizon though. The way they switch it up every album and set the scene for the industry. Unbelievable.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
So each of us have different musical influences and I have they all tie together in our songs and make what we believe is fucking awesome. We have dynamics of sound throughout our music. We have catchy choruses, heavy breakdowns, relatable lyrics. You can’t tie us down to one genre we just play what we want. That’s what rock n roll is about.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
The lyrics on our (new) sophomore album are actually really meaningful to our singer Aaron. They were wrote at a difficult time in his life where he lost sense of direction and life was turned upside down hence the name Rock Bottom.
We feel like we’ve all been in these situations and we all find it hard to get the help you need to persevere and make it through the unhappy stages of your life. There is always a way. There is always someone out there willing to help you out. You’re not alone.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Our live show is full of energy, crowd involvement and a lot of alcohol. We like to have fun and put on the best show possible.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
We just like to party and drink a ton of booze and have a good time. We’ve definitely got up to some crazy things and seen a lot of shit but you know some things are better left unsaid! We’re out here making friends along the way and having a good time.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Aaron plays the beer and barely remembers the lyrics.
Jamie plays on a Natal drum set with some sick Zildjian K custom cymbals. Beasty.
Our guitarist Jack and Bassist use blackstar and orange amps along with Ernie ball strings.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
Our sophomore album Rock Bottom is out 12th April on Stay Sick Records and we set out on an American tour on 19th April to 5th May and are back UK side from 17th May to 19th May.
It’s a new sound and direction for us. It kicks ass for sure.
What are your plans for 2019?
We plan to tour tour tour and have fun. We aim to reach the highest level possible and continue to grow as a band. World domination is the target. ‘Rock Bottom’ is the key.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
We’d definitely support Bring Me The Horizon. They’re our heroes really and what a show that would be!
As for the opening band. Damn that’s so tough because we toured with so many friends and have made a ton along the way. Anyone on the Stay Sick or 10&8 management crew would do us fine. They all fucking rule. How can we pick one!?
From previous Band of the Day Absolute Hero: What do you like to do on your down time on tour?
We like to drink a lot of alcohol and see a lot of sights. Getting to see different countries is a big deal to us and we’re out here tryna see the world.
From another BotD, Divided Minds: What has been your favourite venue to play?
There’s so many sick venues like our hometown venue ‘Kasbah’ (in Coventry) is awesome but then you’ve also got some awesome venues in the states who’s hospitality is the best ever. For example ‘Homers Bar’ in Abiline, TX – those guys rule and Homers bbq is top notch. Then you’ve also got Rock n Eat in Lyon. Theyre so cool there. We can’t choose. But one day it will be Wembley.
And from Nale: If Jesus played in a band, which instrument would he play?
He’d be too busy backstage pulling all the ladies to be bothered about playing an instrument. That guy can turn water into wine. What a G.
