Alt-rock / punk duo Pretty Vile (Kit and Erin) have recently released their Outdoor Movie Theatre EP. We have reviewed a couple of their live shows before when they supported fellow Coventry band Everything Aside (previously The Prophets) in June and November 2017, and now you can get to know them better by checking out what they had to say when we presented them with our Band of the Day questions.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We’re both from Coventry, UK.
How did you meet?
We’ve been best friends since we met in school.
How long have you been playing as a band?
We’ve been in bands together since we were 14.
What are your influences?
We have many — loosely based off the style of bands such as Slaves, The Chats, FIDLAR, The Drums, etc. We are also influenced by skater subculture and the 70s/80s punk era.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
An in-your-face, energetic, passionate, DIY experience provided by 2 best mates. Our music has something for everyone.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
We sing about whatever we feel passionate about in the moment — sometimes this is funny and we tell stories, other times we use songwriting as an emotional or political outlet.
What’s your live show like?
It is all about keeping up the energy, stage presence and crowd involvement — you won’t be able to stand still.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
For us one of the wildest thing is seeing a room full of people enjoying themselves because of our music and seeing them sing our lyrics back to us
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Come to our shows and you’ll find out!
What are your plans for the rest of 2019?
Spread our wings and fly. We have recently released an EP called Outdoor Movie Theatre, that you can check out below. We have two Birmingham gigs coming up — The Sunflower Lounge on April 30th supporting Souki, and after that we’re supporting HAVVK at The Actress and Bishop on May 11th.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you?
There are too many bands that we’d love to support, but definitely one of the bands we mentioned before — we would love to have P.E.T support us again, they’re our favourite local band at the moment.
