Monday morning and the back to work blues. Allow us, and Celophys to raise your metal spirits…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Central Ukraine, Cherkassy.
Shortly after the recording of the first album, the drummer and bass player left the band. I (Beregovoy Alexander) was a guitarist and a vocalist. After getting acquainted with a great guitarist and like-minded person, Miroslav, I decided to become a drummer because I had some experience in this. This way Celophys became a duo.
How long have you been playing as a band?
For 7 years.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
First of all, I wished to write lyrics on the topic of palaeontology. In addition to this I thought that the sound of fuzz has this pre-historic vibe.
What are your influences?
Black Sabbath, Weedeater, Pombagira, Saint Vitus, Sourvein, Six Feet Under, Left Lane Cruiser, Midmourner, dot[.]
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
A sound which invokes primal instincts.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Palaeontology, life experiences, marijuana.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
It looks like two dudes creating the wall of prehistorical low sound. Frankly speaking, I don’t remember how many shows we did.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
The pedals we us are 100% DIY. Starting with Phobos Elevator we use the clone of vintage Orange-Matamp (Tank Plutonaut) and Marshall JMP. As for the pedals: Sunn Model T preamp, Green Matamp emu, EHX Big Muff and a way splitter. Guitar: Cort EVL Z2 (EMG 81-85). Drums: Paiste Rude cymbals / Pearl pedal / Mapex bass drum and floor tom.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
New upcoming album – Fried Chordata.
We’re a quarter of the way through the year now, what are your plans for the rest of 2019?
To play as many shows as we can
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
Midmourner, Saint Vitus, Sourvein, Toten-hex… These are the bands which we would love to share a stage with. And the list can go on and on. And it would be very nice to share the stage with Weedeater again.
From previous Band of the Day, N.E.S.H.: At a local level, what do you think can be done to help the music industry and bands of the future?
Love to music, desire and money.
