Band of the Day: BobbyrocK

When your name is Bobby and you rock, it’s real easy to come up with your band’s name.

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Huntington Beach, California – Surf City USA.

How did you meet?

Craigslist Musician forum and an Instagram DM.

How long have you been playing as a band?

With my first bassist (T-Bone) for a year. My 7th drummer, our musical sister Lindsey around 4 months.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

My name is Justin Bobby from MTV. I used to drum in a hard rock band. After the shows they would say “Bobby, you rock.” Then a buddy had me tattoo “Bobby-rocK” on his shin. That was it… but now every time I change the band name for another musician they really couldn’t handle the elements of rock ‘n’ roll so by birth I would always go back to BobbyrocK.

What are your influences?

Outside support, friends, gratitude, respect, good musicians, good music, family, my father Robert, music that perks your ears up and gets your attention, life, relationships, passion, hurt, questions, answers, trust & God.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Alternative punk rock! Everything. We have this organically returned 90s street punk-thug-grunge look that’s been suppressed for years. Also we’re probably the loudest and cleanest three-piece around. (Depending on consumption and exertion) Think not? Come to a show.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

All Freudian slips with a hint of truth, fiction, facts and experience.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Me? Hundreds. With being in full bands or completely solo. Our live shows make us say “wow” to each other. The genuine roars of appreciation from the fans let’s us know we’re in the right direction. Funny, there’s always a point in our set where each of us completely loses our minds and somehow it always happens to us at exactly the same moment in a song.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Panties dangling from my guitar and nudity always turns heads. But, I am wireless… Once I jumped off stage at a show and I ran to the outside’s smoking patio and grabbed a trashcan that was filled with everything imaginable to the rim and I just threw it. I could not believe the mess it made, so with one hand I was trying to finish the song on my guitar and the other hand was picking up trash.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Fender hollow body, but Gibsons since the beginning. Solid State Amps for life.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

The absolute newest best shit to hit your ear canal or we’ll give you your money back.

What are your plans for 2019?

Tours, bigger shows, festivals, more TV appearances.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before.

The Foos for their crowd. Royal Blood because it’s suitable. Metallica because my groin says so. We would like The Velvet Addiction to open up for us but sadly they can’t. I put a spell on them after they gypped paying us for co-lining with them on an Australian tour. So yeah… they broke the fuck up.
