We last had a proper natter with Beth Blade and co. back in 2017. With a new album out, now seemed like a good time for an update…
Simple things first ā where are you guys from?
Beth Blade (Vocals and guitar)- We are from Cardiff South Wales.
How did you meet?
Through the best rock club around FUEL, I got talking to the bar man who said he was a guitarist and his best mate was a drummer. We booked a gig two weeks later and the rest is history.
How long have you been playing as a band?
Just over 3 years.
Before you get sick of being askedā¦ where does the band name come from?
Beth Blade is obviously my name but the guys wanted an āAnd Theā name. The Beautiful Disasters part come from the song “World On Fire” by Slash which was huge at the time we got together.
What are your influences?
KISS, Guns N Roses, Thin Lizzy, Halestorm, Black Stone Cherry, Foo Fighters, some recent additions include Ghost and The New Roses.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Honestly I think our wide range of influences and the fact we wear them on our sleeves makes for a huge melting pot and it means you never know is youāre gonna get straight ahead rock, something a bit heavier or even poppier. We definitely have a sound of our own whilst being reminiscent of classic rock.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
We write about a lot of things but the pursuit of rock and roll and our love of it is a big one, And love in general, I think all the best songs in the world stem from love.
Whatās your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Our live shows are pretty interactive and I like to get the crowd involved as much as possible. We like to create a fun party atmosphere. Iāve lost count but close to 200 I think. I wish it was more!
Whatās the wildest thing youāve seen or done at a live show?
Iāve seen some crazy stuff but my favourite was when Justin Hawkins started climbing the stage at St Davids Hall in Cardiff, he got like 50 feet up and managed to get back down too with a guitar in tow!
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Sam plays Tama drums and used Zildjan cymbals and Vic Firth sticks. Luke plays a Gibson Les Paul through a Silver Jubilee Marshall and I play and Ibanez Iceman PS120 and I use Black Star and Marshall amps depending on my mood.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We had a new album out on January 25th 2019 called Show Me Your Teeth and we canāt wait for everyone to hear it!
What are your plans for 2018, into 2019?
We had the new album coming out at the start of the year and then we want to tour as much as possible, we have lots in the pipeline but some confirmed dates included SOS festival Manchester in July and we are opening the mainstage at Hard Rock Hell on November 8th.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
Oooooh thatās hard. Headline would either be KISS or Halestorm. To open Iād really love to play with Hollowstar cause they are seriously kick as and I want to steal Joeās hat again.
From previous Band of the Day Muscular Child: Dave Grohl, Mick Jagger, Prince – Who would you kiss, who would you marry and who would you kill?
Kill Mick, Snog Dave and of course Marry Prince.
From another BotD, Vanity: If you could go back in time and tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?
To never give up and never doubt yourself because you will make your dreams come true!
And from Charly&Faust: Whatās your underwear colour?
Black, always black. I rarely if ever wear colours. Only on special occasion.
