What happens when you mix metal with anime? Pyrotechnica.
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are from Tucson, AZ.
How did you meet?
Originally the project was started through Scarlett and Ben. They had met through a previous band they were both in. Dustin worked as an instructor with Ben at Guitar Center and was asked to be part of this new project. Josh joined last year, he was asked to audition when we were looking for a new drummer. We had known Josh through another local band and invited him out.
How long have you been playing as a band?
We are coming up to our fourth year as a band.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
I wish there was some sort of amazing story behind it but just like all band names we were just tossing random words that sounded cool. Eventually Scarlett brought up the word Pyrotechnic and we added the “A” because it sounded cool! It was either that or Dawn of the Orcs…
What are your influences?
Scarlett: One OK Rock, Don Broco, and Fall Out Boy.
Dustin: Opeth, The Contortionist, Good Tiger, Coheed and Cambria.
Josh: Pretty much any band that has been to able to make music and touring a career and staying on top not allowing egos or vanity to take over.
Ben: Trivium, Earth Wind and Fire, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
If you’re into heavy riffs, groovy drums, pop choruses, dance feel synths, and love anime you’ll dig our music! Our music has a large movie and anime music influence and we try and incorporate that in all aspects of our music. We feel we’ve made a sound for ourselves that is apart from your typical metal band. We use a lot of modern metal techniques and formats but strive to push our songs to have this “bigger-than-life” feel that you would expect to see at the beginning of an anime or fantasy video game.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Our songs are usually about the self. They are mostly about reflecting from past experiences and relationships of all sorts, learning from them, and striving for the better, striving for greatness, and perhaps using that greatness to do good in the world.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
You can expect two things: One, being our performance on stage. We make an effort to be high energy, demonstrate high musicianship, have crowd participation, and genuinely loving what we are doing on stage.
The second thing being: before and after our show. We love talking with people at shows and watching all the acts we perform with. We love performing. Without the support of people coming out to shows, there would be no artists.
As far as how many shows we’ve played, that’s hard to answer. We’ve done quite a bit since we’ve been a band.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
In general, seeing walls-of-death are always badass to watch! Especially when you’re a part of them.

Vocals: Shure GLXD B58.
Guitars: Schecter C7 SLS Elite 7 String – Engl Fireball Head – Orange 4×12 CAB.
Bass: Spector Euro 5LX – Mesa Subway 800 – Mesa Powerhouse 4×10 and 1×15.
Drums: Pearl Masterworks Drums – Zildjan Cymbals – Remo Heads – Pro Mark Sticks.
What are your plans for 2019?
We are currently finishing up our second album. We are hoping to release new music, tour and look for management!
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
I’m sure all of us would have our own dream bills and whom we’d love to open for. Definitely though someone to come support with us from the Tucson, AZ scene would be Fire Glass.
