Band of the Day: Headrot

I discovered Headrot via one of our previous Bands of the Day, Basilysk, who’d recommended them. Despite being around for some time I’ve not heard of them, so now I’m sharing the heavy metal joy with you lot! Now, can someone sort them out with a UK tor so I can buy one of their t-shirts without getting hammered for import duty?

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Rhode Island, USA

How did you meet?

Gordon/drummer and Mike/guitarist have been friends since they were teenagers. We met at a party of a mutual friend.

How long have you been playing as a band?

25 years.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

Genital warts of the penis!

What are your influences?

Wow, that’s a tough one. In the beginning our music was primitive, our drive was to be different so we really didn’t have any influences – we just wanted to play. But as for music in the early 90’s things we were all listening to was anything from Nirvana, Black Sabbath, Skull Crusher, The Real “Entombed, Celtic Frost, Mayhem to Lynyrd Skynyrd… so it’s very diverse

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Well we have never followed anyone’s style. We strive to be different and as heavy as possible. We would like to think that out music is understandable, that it makes you want to bang your head and sometimes even beat someone to death! We have also always played what we like, so it goes like this: you either like us or you don’t!

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Yes we do, from the start its always been about death, horror, mutilation, and a little Satan. And still is – why change, right?

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We have been told that if you see us live you will damn sure like it. Well over 500 show over the course of the years.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Back in the day we had this vocalist, Dan Sauro, who liked to engage the crowd even if it meant going out on the floor and starting a pit and fucking shit up in general.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Drums: Tama and Paiste

Guitar: Four custom made 7-strings and a modified Bugera w/ Peavey cabs, also boss pedal

Bass: Ibanez and Mesa with distortion

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Seeking a new bassist and our next release Devious Acts Of Defilement. We are currently in the studio.

What are your plans for 2019?

To be better than 2018! Getting settled into more of a routine, get grounded and more accomplished.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Unlike a lot of other bands that have been around for a while we actually don’t care about position, but it is always better when you play with people you know. We are always open to new bands and there are quite a few out there who are good. So anyone to open, but to support I would have to say our friends in the band Terrorizer.

From previous Band of the Day, BackBlast: If you had to change your band name and play a different genre, what would your name be, and which genre would that be and why?

MAGOG and it would be black metal old school! It’s just something we always wanted to do and, who knows, maybe some day.

From another BotD, She Burns Red: What is the one thing that really annoys you about being in a band?

Clicks! Talking shit! Lack of compassion for what one does. Someone who says they are in a band and showboats and doesn’t have a fucking clue, and in general people who don’t think that they need to practice on a regular basis be it alone or with their band.

And from Beneath The Hollow: If could travel back in time to see one band/artist who is no longer around perform, who would it be?

Quorthon and Bathory.
