Band of the Day: Erica Drive

Hopefully learning about Erica Drive will make up for this being Monday…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from Bournemouth on the south coast of England.

How did you meet?

We have known each other for years and played in various bands together.

How long have you been playing as a band?

About a year and a half.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

Matt used to live on Erica Drive.

What are your influences?

Thrice, The Wonder Years, Trash Boat, Jimmy Eat World as a collective but individually we listen to pretty much every genre going between us all.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We are a rock band essentially, but we would consider ourselves a band that don’t fit to a particular genre. Some of our songs are more on the punky side of rock, some on the poppy side and some on the emo side, we play anything that sounds good to us and try not to limit ourselves to a genre.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Our lyrics are based around things that could happen to anyone, we hope that even just a line can grab someone and they feel an emotional connection to the song.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We give everything we have for the time we’re onstage, we try and take every ounce of bottled up emotion and use our time on stage as a release. We have played just under 20 shows so far and have quite a few lined up between now and the EP release in April.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Frank once unbuttoned Matt’s shirts onstage without him realising until the song had started so that was different, a gig in Newbury we had people spinning round as if they were their own planets that was odd. Luckily we haven’t had anything massively embarrassing happen yet!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

Guitar stuff we use mainly Fender guitars, Amps we use Victory, Vox and Hayden. Lots of pedals, Drum stuff D a Mapex kit, Zildjian cymbals, dw5000 double pedal. Collision drumsticks.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We have a new EP out on April 12th called The Hate, the Hurt, the Healing which we can’t wait for it to be released, we released a new single on January 22nd called “All We Are” and we have loads of shows coming up!

What are your plans for 2019?

Be busy, release new music, play loads of shows, meet new people and have a wicked time doing something we love.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Matt – I would have Priests to Pilots open as we recently played shows with them and not only is their music awesome they are a super nice bunch of guys to hang out with and headlining would be Jimmy Eat World because they’re just awesome.

Sam – Big Zilch opening then Architects.

Damien – I’d have our good friends Towers opening then Thrice headlining.

Damian – Big Zilch, us, Trash Boat.

Frank – The Wonder Years headline, opening would be Priests To Pilots, our weekender with them was too much fun and I wanna do it again.
