Band of the Day: Crossplane

Filthy German rock n’ roll ahoy! Today’s Band of the Day won’t let you sit still…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We all live in the Ruhr area but in different cities – Bochum, Wuppertal, Gevelsberg and Cologne (which is actually not really the Ruhr area but close to).

How did you meet?

When we first met we all played in various bands but weren’t satisfied with our situations back then and wanted to start something new and fresh. Since we knew each other we started a new band a called it Crossplane. That was 2010. The same year we played our first show.

How long have you been playing as a band?

Since 2010.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

The unexciting truth is that it was taken out of the dictionary. We were looking for a band name which wasn’t taken before and something that fits to our music. And I am still satisfied with the choice.

What are your influences?

Influences come from many sides. Punk and metal for sure, all the music we grew up with in the 90s.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Come to our shows and get the feeling. We are the party makers. You won’t sit still when we get started.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Girls, boobs, alcohol, party, party! But we also try to catch up with everyday news in a critical way. We are not political but we do not want to close our eyes seeing the truth.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Our shows are always like a big party with friends. The most important thing is to get into interaction with the crowd. We wanna have the same fun on stage as people in front of the stage. We want to make every night and show unique and memorable.

I guess we have played between 500 and 600 shows up to now. I haven’t count them, but there are already 60 shows lined up for 2019.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Also I remember some guy who was pulled out his clothes, climbed on the stage and was dancing naked next to my bandmates. He was very sweaty, you know what I mean. It was strange but the crowd was cheering!

Besides that losing keys for hotel rooms or the rental car. Losing drunken band members at festivals… Sometimes we slip on our beer puddle and land in between the drums! The regular rock n’ roll shit!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

For guitar we love to play Gibson, a Stingray bass and a Yamaha drum kit.

We also use Gibson custom musician and Yamaha 9000 custom recording kit.

What are your plans for 2019?

We are in the process of recording and will release our 4th album. In February we will be on tour in Europe with Chrome Division – the band from Shagrath who is also the frontman of the mighty Dimmu Borgir. Also we will play a lot of festivals and as many shows as we can and bring the fire in the name of Rock ‘n’ Roll.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Monster Magnet is definitely a band we would love to support. Or the Carburetors from Oslo. As a support band for ourselves we expect every band with the same passion we have for the music and who knows how to party.
