You don’t need a massive band to make a massive noise. Two will do. Need proof? Then check out Tayne…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Ireland / England
How did you meet?
On an internet dating site called Gumtree or Tinder or Grinder… definitely one of the 3 but I can’t recall.
How long have you been playing as a band?
Since March 2017.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
After many nights of oysters, hat wobbles, flargenstow, nudity and beta sequences we knew that Tayne was a name we could get into.
What are your influences?
Fever Ray / Zola Jesus / Health / John Maus / Liars / Fuck Buttons / Blanck Mass / St. Vincent / Lady Gaga / Nine Inch Nails.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Experimental noise pop.
We hope one day to be unique but for the most part we are just interested in making music that we enjoy and that feels like it’s coming from an honest place.
No one wants to chase the coolest current band, or maybe you do? We are definitely not that band.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Yes, as per our press releases which state our lyrical themes embody “reflection of my own anxieties, insecurities, fears, hopes and expectations and my mental health.”
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Our live shows are intense and chaotic. You will love it or hate it and run away. We play as loud as possible, fill the room with smoke and have strobe lights everywhere. It’s a complete spectacle. The chances are if you actually do catch a eye contact with me on stage I’m probably already death staring you out of your soul.
It’s an audio/visual assault, you should totally come catch us live! We have clocked up to almost 80 shows in our year and a bit of existence.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Occasionally I smash my head open with a microphone. We have a song called “Open Up” and if you take that song literally then it makes perfect sense but, art is subjective so you can take your own ideas and thoughts from it.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Fender jazz man bass / Gibson – Travis bean guitars / Roland tr8 drum machine / notation bass station 2 / kaoss pads / Roland sp 404 fx sample pad and various combo amps and pedals.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
Our album, it’s called Breathe. It came out Nov 2 on Strange Brew records. You can listen to it on all streaming sites or buy it via Rough Trade or our Bandcamp.
What are your plans for 2018/19?
Well we currently have an ongoing 24 show tour around the UK and Ireland for the album launch that will take us up to Dec 7th. That’s mostly it for 2018, next year roll on Europe.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
I’d probably say we would love to open for A Place To Bury Strangers, we’ve seen them a bunch of times now and it’s always great, so them or HEALTH. Realistically speaking we would love to tour with Metallica or Big Lad.
