A short but sweet one for you today.
Where are you guys from?
Our hometown is Kenosha, WI, where the band originated.
How did you meet?
I met Jason and Eric through a former bandmate and they were once a part of a different band called Praying Mantis Theory. Matt, we met as just a fan in the crowd who was so eager to join us when we had a spot available and two years after that, I reached out to the man, and here he is today as our lead guitarist.
How long have you been playing as a band?
Altogether this band has been together for 10 years, with me being the original member. This lineup however has been around for about 2 years now.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
Saint Tragedy comes from everyday life; we all have our ups and downs, we all outweigh the good with the bad, we are all human.
What are your influences?
Shinedown, Alter Bridge, Alice In Chains, Guns N’ Roses, Ozzy, Stone Sour the list goes on for us.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Attitude and soul.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Not exactly, we do have one song called “No More Religion” which makes some think of it as the band’s anthem.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
A lot of energy goes into our shows, we want to make sure the crowd is entertained. You won’t regret seeing our show, I like to think each time we go out there we get better and better at the art. It’s hard for me to count how many shows we’ve done this year alone. We’ve done more than we ever have for sure. Even for being a local band we’ve put in a lot of time and effort into what we do.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Haven’t had too many wild encounters, just the one that always comes to mind is the Sharpie guy in the bathroom who wanted me to sign his arm. Can never tell that story without the guys saying “You sure it wasn’t his third leg?”
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
- ESP Mirage, Ibanez Jem, PRS Custom 24, Gibson U2 Strat. Mesa Boogie amps
- Oktober 12 string and Schecter bass guitars.
- North and Pearl drum kits.
- Shure 58 mics.
What are your plans for 2018?
We are looking at getting back into the studio for a possible full-length album and also a potential tour to get out to those areas where we’ve had successful radio play.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mates band we’ve not heard of before!
I’d say, for me, of course, Shinedown and for an opener, I wouldn’t mind taking a friendly local band with us – Mixed Company to open.
