Sometimes our Band of the Day feature brings you a brand new band with no releases. Today, we’ve got something the complete opposite for you. But they do have a brand new album so that sorta counts, right?
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are from Tulsa, Oklahoma USA
How did you meet?
We all met in the local hardcore and punk music scene in the early 2000s.
How long have you been playing as a band?
The band formed in 2001.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
A former member, Mr. Johnny Lloyd came up with it. I believe it was inspired by a painting depicting the suffering of Christ.
What are your influences?
We grew up on the standards, Metallica, Megadeth, and Pantera on the metal side and bands like The Dead Kennedys, Bad Religion, and Black Flag on the hardcore/punk side. We also took influence from Carcass, At The Gates, Entombed and a bunch of the 1990s Roadrunner bands like Sepultura, Fear Factory, Machine Head etc.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We try to keep our music sounding organic and avoid sounding too polished. We want it to have a nasty element to the sound.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Every record has been different, the last two have addressed the oppressive nature of religion, the cruelty of god and the horrific nature of man.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
We try to recreate the feel of the record, keep it intense and have a good time. We’ve played probably 300 plus shows.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
We are currently playing ESP Guitars and Jericho Basses. The whole band plays SIT strings. We use Peavey 5150s and a Kemper as well. I am also a big fan of Abominable Electronics who make the overdrive pedal I’m playing, the Hellmouth.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We are promoting our new record Tormentor that just came out on Outerloop Records!
What are your plans for 2018?
We plan to multiple tours in the US and abroad and start working on music for the next record!
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
We would love to support Behemoth anywhere in the world. We’ve been digging a band from Denmark called Mol, would be awesome to do some shows together!
From previous Band of the Day, Toronto Blessings: as a band would you sooner fight 50 old ladies or 1 Horse?
We would surrender to either.
From previous Band of the Day, Boss Keloid: imagine a docu-drama story of your band is being made for late-night, BBC broadcast; which actors would play which band member, and why?
- Mike – Vin Diesel
- Jay – Adam Beach
- Chris – Kevin Smith
- Brian – Lorenzo Lamas
We chose these because they are ridiculous and still kinda have some accuracy.
From Ryders Creed: what’s the weirdest thing anyone’s ever heckled/shouted at you during a live show, and what was your reaction to it?
Once at a show there were a couple kids flipping us off for the entire set, so of course we assume they weren’t all that happy to watch us. They were actually big fans and for some reason that was them showing their support and excitement!
