As ever, we’re going to try and cover every single Jäger, New Blood and SOPHIE stage band before Bloodstock kicks off on August 9th. Your chance to check them out and start planning which bands to get there early for!
Trust us when we tell you that this is bound to result in some frustrating clashes because, as ever, there are some great bands on these three stages.
Our thanks to all the bands for taking the time out to answer our questions!
Body Harvest – Hobgoblin New Blood Stage, Friday
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are from Bristol South West.
How long have you been playing together as a band?
The origins of the band go back to December 2011, we became Body Harvest in late 2012 and have had our current line up since December 2016.
Where does the name of the band come from?
The name of the band came from a scene in the film The Matrix. In the machine city there are foetus fields in which synthetically grown human babies are harvested to power the plant, hence Body Harvest.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Our music is very fast and very intense. It combines a lot of old school death metal influences with a lot of more modern death metal as well thrash and even some Industrial influences. You can expect a lot of blast beats and double bass, technical and chugging riffs, melodic and high squealing solos and guttural and high screeching vocals to top it off. What makes is unique is that we don’t limit ourselves when writing death metal, we are all influenced by all types of heavy music and combined it creates a very unique style of relentless death metal. We also have two vocalists meaning there is a lot more range of vocals in our music.
What’s your live show like? Why are people going to watch you instead of another band?
Our live show is a no holds barred, relentless, energetic bludgeoning of death metal fury! Our aim is to be faster and heavier than any other band on the bill and we guarantee that on the Friday of Bloodstock!
Have you been to Bloodstock before? What did you think?
All 4 members of Body Harvest attend every year with one of us attending every year since 2009. Bloodstock is by far the UK’s best heavy metal festival, we miss it when we’re not there and it’s fantastic to be surrounded by like minded metalheads. We wish we could get away from society and just live at Bloodstock!
Did you enter M2TM thinking you could win it? Which region did you win, or did you come through other channels?
We definitely thought we had a good chance. The competition this year was very strong though, it definitely was a showcase of what Bristol had to offer. We just gave it our all as we always do at every live show and it paid off for us. The whole experience was fantastic; we’ve met loads of new great bands and friends. We entered the Bristol region, our home town.
What sort of setlist can we expect?
Our setlist is going to be made up entirely of new songs from our upcoming album Parasitic Slavery including two live debuts. It will include all the singles we have released so far this year including “The Prophet” which we just released a new video for. It is our fastest and heaviest set of songs so far!
Which other bands do you most hope you’re not squished up next to so you can see them play?
We were very relieved when we were put on the Friday as Exhorder is one of the main bands we want to see. As for our day, we really want to see Emperor, Bloodbath, Judas Priest and Suicidal Tendencies. Our bass player Dan is also playing with his other band Mortishead Friday so we definitely know we won’t be clashing with them haha.
What are you working on at the moment?
At the moment we are working hard to release our new album Parasitic Slavery. The final masters are almost done and we will be announcing the release date very soon. As for new material, we have started working on a few riffs between us.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
That would have to be the London gig of our recent UK headline tour. From start to finish it was an absolute pandemonium! Continuous pits, drinks flying everywhere, people diving off the PA, microphones smashing into faces, pedal boards taken by the pit, circle pits around pillars and Dan crowd surfing whilst playing. It was complete carnage and we loved every second of it!
Jäger, Hobgoblin Ale, Red Bull, Kingstone Press Cider, Kaltenberg Beer or Bulleit Bourbon? And, yes, we’ll be counting all the votes!
Well being true West Country men we will definitely be trying the press ciders and hopefully they are as strong as what we get here. We will definitely be having a bit of everything though; our drinking team has a bad death metal problem!
