Band of the Day: Rozu

If you’re not already baked into a sloppy mess in this insane heat, activate that scrolling finger and read the words of Rozu’s vocalist Tim Graham as he tells us all about today’s Band of the Day…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

We are from the beautiful city of Denver, Colorado

How did you meet?

We all met and came together through the scene. Myself and DJ played in a previous band together, and we had shared the stage with our drummer Brian’s band a couple times. Henry was a friend of some of my friends and when meeting the guy we were all just sold on him, hands down the coolest and most positive vibe dude ever!

How long have you been playing as a band?

We came together in January of this year, so we are very new but feels like we’ve been in a band for 5 years together with how well we all mesh and vibe.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

DJ and I were trying to come up with a cool unique name for this project and Rozu was one of the big list we had. Rozu is Japanese for rose and we were just watching this idea come together so well that we thought of a beautiful blooming rose.

What are your influences?

Are influences are spread all across the board from pop to metal. Our major influences for our writing style are Like Moths To Flames, Underoath, Taking Back Sunday, and Saosin.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

I think what truly makes us unique is our diversity. Our debut single “Dissolve” is like an aggressive post hardcore song, then we have some really heavy songs we just wrote and are writing a loft of softer stuff right now. It’s cool cause we stick to our post hardcore roots with our style, but we bring in all these other influences and styles to it.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

As of right now I write about past experiences or current ones at the time of writing them that involve myself fighting all these ideas and demons inside of me. We all question things and why we are like we are along with having been involved in shitty situations that you just have to vent about. I talk of these negative things while trying to find a positive outlook and message to hopefully connect with others out there with the same feelings to show them that things do get better.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We haven’t played any shows quite yet but we are gearing up to begin and I’ll let you know now a Rozu show will be a very high energy special show to attend.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

We play Jericho and ESP guitars. I use Sennheiser microphones, and Brian has a beautiful PDP drum kit

What are your plans for 2018?

Right now we are just continuing to write and keep putting content out. We wrapped up four new songs this month and are currently finalizing our album separate from those. Very soon we are going to be playing shows and planning on being on the road as much as possible!

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

Support Underoath and have our good friends in Thousand Below open for us… Fuck it we’d open and support both those bands cause they are nothing but good!
