Band of the Day: The Night Suns

Radu Constantin, singer and guitarist with dark rockers The Night Suns, staggers into the daylight long enough to answer our Band of the Day questions…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

London, UK.

How did you meet?

I was bandmates with Krys before and we’ve been friends for a number of years,  Freddy and I met in our university days in Manchester, and I found Marky online.

How long have you been playing as a band?

For almost 2 years.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

It’s a symbol for the contrast in our music, dark yet uplifting.

What are your influences?

Nine Inch Nails, Alice In Chains, Queens of The Stone Age, The Doors, David Lynch, Buddha, Futurism, Mysticism and many many others.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We’re dark, moody, edgy, sultry yet dangerous, fast and full of energy.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

These change according to how life changes, right now my lyrics revolve around themes such as isolation, addiction, sexuality, desire, love, enlightenment, endarkenment, and so on.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

We want to make it a ritual of releasing negativity, of reaching out for a higher state. So we contrast between moments of darkness and sultriness to intense outbursts of energy. We probably played around 10 so far.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Playing the Electric Ballroom to almost 1000 people was wild in itself.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

At the moment my main guitar is a G&L Fallout going into a Blackstar Series One 6L6 and a Marshall JCM900. Krys uses Fender basses into a Hartke Amp. We both have various pedalboard setups. Freddy is an M-audio user with his main sound rig being based on Native Instruments plugins, and Marky plays DW drums.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

We’ve just released our first EP, Human, which can be found in all major online stores and streaming platforms.

What are your plans for the rest of 2018?

Planning for bigger & better shows, hopefully some festivals, working hard on our first album, expanding our vision on what the band means to us, and what we want it to mean to everyone else.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

The biggest honour possible would be to open for Nine Inch Nails, and opening for us would be our very good friends from Telepathy.

From previous Band of the Day Muscular Child: Dave Grohl, Mick Jagger, Prince – Who would you kiss, who would you marry and who would you kill?

Tough one ! Kiss Jagger, marry Grohl, and kill Prince.

From another BotD, Vanity: If you could go back in time and tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

Take it easy, everything will be alright.

And from Charly&Faust: What’s your underwear colour?

Black today, tomorrow who knows?!
