With a new video out today (see below), it made sense to find out about the creative minds behind it. Read a bit about Klammer, then check out the video below…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Leeds/W. Yorks.
How did you meet?
Steve – I met Poss the singer while mixing his previous band in the studio.
How long have you been playing as a band?
Five years.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
We liked ‘Clamour’ (a loud and confused noise) as a band name but decided to change the spelling so it looked more European. We’ve since found out it means clamp in German!
What are your influences?
Everything we’ve ever listened to, but if you’re asking for some bands/artists then the likes of Joy Division, The Stooges, Bowie, Early Roxy Music and The Pixies.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Well it’s not quite punk, it’s not quite rock and it’s not quite goth but somewhere in the middle of all of those.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
The lyrics to our songs don’t stick to any particular topic. Whatever the subject matter, the words are, more often than not, pretty cryptic or surreal.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
We decided early on that the live sound should be much more raw than the studio sound, so it’s much simpler and harder than the recordings. We love being on stage and the energy we feel, so we try and send that energy out to the crowd. I would guess about 120 shows.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Seen – Seeing Iggy Pop’s cock!
Done – Playing outdoors on the side of a wagon rocking out while watching cows eat grass!
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
- Steve – Fender Jaguar/Fender VI
- Poss – Fender Tele through my Orange Tiny Terror – a great combination!
- Mike – Fender Jazz Bass
- Bruno – DW Kit
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We’ve got a new single out on Under Dogz Records on 11th May called Modern God, download only.
What are your plans for 2018?
There’ll be another single called “Spiral Girl” out in the summer, which will be available on 7” vinyl and then the third album shortly after that. The album is going to be called You Have Been Processed and will be available on CD, vinyl and of course download.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
- Joy Division (main)
- Klammer
- The Membranes (open)
From previous Band of the Day Then Comes Silence: When was the last time you talked about death?
Yesterday. It’s going to happen to us all. There’s no use fearing it! Just make sure to enjoy the ride while you’re here.
From another BotD, Silence The Radio: If you could have one artist feature on a song of yours, who would it be?
David Bowie on his 12 string acoustic.
And from Huxtable: What is your favourite TV show theme?
The Persuaders by John Barry.
