Band of the Day: Insolvency

Bruno Blackstard, singer and guitarist with French “artists d’heavy” Insolvency, respondez-vous’s to our Band of the Day questions…

Simple things first – where are you guys from?

Hi, we’re from France, 1:30 hour away from Paris!

How did you meet and How long have you been playing as a band?

The band started in 2012, founded by Valentin and one of his friend Jules, then Mickael (friend of a friend) joined the band on drums, and then Pierre arrived. I joined the band in 2014 after Jules’s departure, I found their post on a facebook music group!

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

At first we didn’t think about the meaning of the word but if you want one,  think about it in the non-economic sense.

What are your influences?

Too many! I’m really into Scandinavian metal (Children of Bodom, Wintersun, Arch Enemy) and mainstream death/black (Dimmu Borgir, Septic Flesh, Cradle of Filth)  before getting in metalcore with bands like Bullet for My Valentine!

Pierre has been more into metalcore from the beginning, Valentin loves heavy and metalcore. Mickael, our drummer, is more into deathcore prog things. So each of us bring different ideas and it mixes well together!

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Powerful, technical and groovy. In our music, you’ll be able to find the previously mentioned influences, various riffs styles, drum progressions, several kind of vocals, kick ass guitar solos and ambient stuff.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

Our lyrics are inspired by media news and how we feel about it: violence, despair, depression, fighting for something… We don’t directly target subjects but we deal with them indirectly and explore the feelings related to them.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Come and see us! We did several shows, in France mainly, but also Luxembourg!

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

I think the wildest thing I’ve seen is Steel Panther asking girls to show boobs!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

I play on Alexi Laiho’s signature guitars. I have 3 – Scythe, Pinksawtooth and Sawtooth. My head amp is a Bugera 333XL with 2×12 V30 CAB. At home I’m using a Peavey 6505MH with a 1×12 V30 cab.

Val plays on an LTD MH350FR (ESP Horizon based on). His head amp is a Bugera 6262 and an Engl 2×12 .

Pierre has an SR-300 bass he likes for its heavy sound. He has an Ampeg amp head and 4×10 cab.

Mickael has a customized unbranded drum with Iron Cobra kick pedals, Evans skins, MeinL/Sabian Cymbals, tom 12″ 13″ 16″ 22″, 2 crash ride splash, charley Meinl, China sabian. Bell and splash blackmetal.

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Working on another music video and our upcoming gig in Paris.

What are your plans for 2018?

Keep promoting our album with another music video planned around March, we’ll be also working on our touring schedule. It needs time to set it up but stay connected for upcoming news!

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!

We’d love to support While She Sleeps or Architects. If we could plug one nice band we’ve met, it would be FRCTRD (modern death prog) who are such friendly guys and make crazy music!

From another BotD, Vanity : If you could go back in time and tell your younger self one thing, what would it be?

Don’t be too obedient but listen to people!

And from Charly&Faust: What’s your underwear colour?

Red.
