Band of the Day: Citadels

Attacking their instruments with down-tuned, melancholic anger are Citadels, today’s Band of the Day. The Manchurian metalcore quartet do not give a fuck about backing down or appealing to commercialisation, instead choosing to throw everything they can in to their music. Formed only in 2016, the band already have a wealth of experience on the live circuit, creating quite a buzz within their local metal scene, and are eager for more. The group’s newest single, “Till Death Do Us Part”, acts simply as an example to the quality of metal being produced by these prominent up-and-comers within the UK rock scene. Without further ado, let’s take a closer look at “Till Death Do Us Part”.

The best way to ensure a person knows who you are when introducing yourself is by repeating your name more than once. Citadels clearly took this approach when recording their latest single, after the introductory riff roars in to existence, accompanied by chunky, lingering bass notes, and furious drums, there is only a brief pause before the whole introduction is repeated. An intensely villainous and brilliant plan to ensure that the wickedly catchy riff not only makes an impact upon its audience, but remains playing over and over in their heads for days.

Chock full of throaty screamed vocals, crunchy guitar riffs, and an insanely brutal breakdown towards the end of the track, Citadels have knocked it out of the park with their newest single, and cemented themselves as perhaps on of the most promising young heavy metal outfits from the North. “Till Death Do Us Part” is a fast-paced whirlwind, and is certainly one which I would gladly drive head-first straight in to.

“Till Death Do Us Part” is out now.
