The week plods on and we have another new bundle of rock talent for you to add to your “I have to check these out” pile. Today: Divided Minds…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are from Phoenix Arizona.
How did you meet?
We met through a rock camp sort of thing our local music store puts on.
How long have you been playing as a band?
We’ve been playing for four years now.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
Our fourteen year old brains really just thought Divided Minds sounded cool.
What are your influences?
Our influences are A Day to Remember, All Time Low, and 5SOS mostly.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
We really like to blend pop songs with hardcore tropes. Like we’ll have a poppy song that randomly has a breakdown half way through or we’ll just keep it pop the whole way.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
Most of our lyrics revolve around heartbreak and coping.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
Our live show is high energy the entire way through. We focus on hype and crowd participation. By now we’ve probably played close to a hundred shows.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
The craziest thing we’ve seen was not actually at a show but before it. We were unloading our tour van and this buff Irish dude wearing a thong walked up to us trying to sell us stickers with some bad joke on them. Josh challenged him to a freestyle battle and of course he accepted. So Josh and this guy freestyle in the middle of “BF” Texas and we got it all on video. It was hilarious!
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Deven plays an SJC tour kit, and Zildjian A and K customs. Josh plays a PRS out of an Orange Rockerverb with an Orange cab, and I (Sean) play a Fender Strat out of an Orange Thunderverb with a Marshall 1960 A cab.
What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?
We are currently hyping up an EP release this April 6th. Check it out on Spotify and iTunes and junk.
What are your plans for 2018?
Our plans for 2018 are to hopefully tour nationally with some other dope bands and also to work on some new music.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
The three band bill would definitely be our buds Promise to Myself opening and Doll Skin headlining. They’re both dope bands.
