Band of the Day: Temples on Mars

“The Band Formerly Known As Agent” have been kind enough to re-introduce themselves to us as they build their new identity and have some new material out. The London based rock outfit were one of the acts who played our stage at Wildfire 2017, and we’ve obviously been keeping an eye on them since…

What are your influences?

Highly eclectic! Everything from dance to experimental, soundscape to metal, hip hop to classical. As a band we listen to both new and old stuff. To name a few bands: Alice in Chains, Deftones, Bring me the Horizon, Thrice, Gallops, Porcupine Tree, Cancer Bats, Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Nothing More, O’Brother… this list is endless. Dean loves Tears for Fears.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

Temples on Mars has an accessible, progressive rock sound. We try to combine melody and the heavy in a unique way.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

On the new album we mostly focus on the darker side of life (or death) and the human condition. It just happened this way really. The next record might be about unicorns and rainbows.

What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?

Seismic! Our first Temples on Mars show will be on Jan 27th 2018 at the Black Heart in Camden, London. Between us in our other projects we have played way too many shows including Download, HRH Prog, HRH Ibiza, and Hammerfest over the years.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

Some are quite unrepeatable in public but James decided to be cool one night and jump off the drum kit wearing slip on loafers and ended up falling over into his Mesa Boogie and knocking the whole thing over and injuring himself in the process. Tumbleweed.

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

  • Fender, Gibson, and Warwick guitars/basses
  • Kemper, Mesa, Ampeg, Warwick amps
  • Mapex Drums
  • Shure microphones
  • Shure monitors and wireless monitor system

What, if anything, are you plugging/promoting at the moment?

Come see us at the Black Heart on Jan 27th 2018 in Camden! We’ve also got a new music video out for our new single and also we have just signed a record deal with Primordial Records. We’ll be unleashing our debut album in April so stay tuned!
