Serpent Lord recently released their new single “Sacrilegium” which you can enjoy below. However, we’re a mean bunch here and in return for throwing the video out to you lot, we demanded some answers in return. We drive a hard bargain here…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
We are from Thessaloniki, Greece.
How did you meet?
We have been friends the last six years, we knew each other so George Savvage and me (Konstantinos) decided to start a band. Our friend Giorgos Terzitanos was the best man to take the lead guitarist’s place.
How long have you been playing as a band?
The band started as an idea on January 2016, but we actually started playing on May.
Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
The name comes from the ancient Serpent, the snake that persuaded Eve and Adam to eat the fruit from the forbidden tree. Also, people personify the evil with the serpent, so we thought it sounded cool and evil.
What are your influences?
The list is too big. Mercyful Fate, Iced Earth, King Diamond, In Solitude, Megadeth, Black Sabbath, Death, Metallica etc. and classical music in general.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
I believe the thing that may makes us unique is that we like to combine classic heavy metal with other metal genres, having a progressive hint and some oriental elements.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
We write about evil, about rites, about the good and evil, about magic and the occult, and having some influences from the Old and the New Testament.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
We have played two live shows so far, both of them on 2017. The first one was with the Greek metallers InnerWish and the second with the legendary band Omen, in Thessaloniki. We are always in a great mood, and we use onstage some candles and two very big banners with four Demon Seals, in order to create the appropriate atmosphere.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Well, we did only two shows so we don’t have much experience on this, but a funny moment was when, at the end of our last performance, our vocalist’s foot was trapped inside a mess of cables that me and him made, and had to bid farewell to the crowd by reaching out to the mic in a Manowar-like position (hahaha).
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?
Our lead guitarist has an Epiphone Korina, our singer/rhythm guitarist has a PRS SE Custom 24th Anniversary (for the time being, as it doesn’t belong to him) and I (Konstantinos) have a Warwick Corvette bass. As for the drummer, we don’t have a permanent drummer, we play with session drummers for now.
What are your plans for the rest of 2017?
We are going to start the pre-production of the full-length album in a few days and we are planning to enter the Infected Studios at the end of the summer, so as to record the debut album. I hope we will be able to reveal more news about the album in the near future. Also, we want play more shows around Greece and maybe abroad.
If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you? A chance to plug someone you’ve toured with, or a mate’s band we’ve not heard of before!
That’s a very difficult question. We love Iced Earth, we love Mercyful Fate and King Diamond so we would be thrilled if we could support these bands. Also, we are huge fans of In Solitude, so maybe we would make them reunite and play some shows with us! As for the band to open for us, I don’t know. Maybe we would choose to open for Iced Earth or King Diamond and have In Solitude open for us (hahaha). Also, thinking of how many great bands exist in Greece, the list would become countless.

Definitely no. We have our lives and we are very happy with them. Even if we are not the best musicians and maybe we won’t become a big band, but this means nothing to us. We have to try and put our best out there and we will be happy if we can do this, even if we won’t become a big band.
