Band of the Day: Cascade

Cascade released their new single, “Ascend” last week (check out out down the bottom) and we decided we needed some words to go with it. So we got the band to write them for us, because that’s how we roll (when we’re really busy)…

Where are you guys from?

We’re from Manchester in the UK.

How did you meet?

Ste, Scott C and Andy were previously in a band together and Ste was also in another band with Scott J – both of our bands crossed paths at gigs. Some of us also studied music at the same university so bumped into each other. Our previous bands all ended naturally and, because we were all still dedicated to writing music, we joined forces.

How long have you been playing as a band?

We have been playing as Cascade for one and half years now.

Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?

When we all got together Andy had the name Cascade already loaded in his mind. We all wanted a one word name and when Andy mentioned the name Cascade we knew it was us!

What are your influences?

Bands like Emarosa, Bring Me The Horizon, Hands Like Houses, Alexisonfire, Underoath and Thrice.

Describe your music. What makes you unique?

We’d say that our sound is an eclectic mix of big choruses and metal based rhythms with melodic undertones that make us unique.

Do you have any particular lyrical themes?

It may be seen as cliché but we like to write about real experiences that have happened in our lives or the lives of people we know. We think it helps the song to have real depth and meaning to it.

What’s your live show like?  How many shows have you played?

We’re coming up to our 11th or 12th show now so we’re still a young band in that respect. However, since we’ve all toured in other bands for the past few years we are very experienced. Our shows are all about the music for us and we let that speak for itself.

What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?

We’re not that rock n roll yet. However, we have recently become endorsed by Fireball Whisky so things are bound to get a lot wilder!

What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.?

  • Scott J plays a SJC kit with Meinl Cymbals.
  • Andy uses a Music Man guitar with Ernie ball strings and a Line 6 helix.
  • Scott C plays Music man bass with D’addario strings through Orange amps.
  • Ste uses ESP guitars with D’addario strings and Line 6 firehawk

What are your plans for 2017?

We have just released a brand new single called “Ascend” and we’ll be releasing more material in the near future. We will also be heading out on the road and gigging a load more including Tramlines Fringe Festival.

If you were second on a three-band bill, which band would you love to be supporting and which band would you choose to open for you?

If we could support any band it would be either Underoath or Emarosa! For our openers we’d go for a great band whose music we love but who we are also good friends so either Lost Atlanta or our fellow Red Cardinal Music boys Everyday Sidekicks.
