Welcome to The Muffin Heads: A three-piece female fronted punk/grunge sandwich hailing from Essex. We recently received their debut single; a double A side, which was released on June 17th 2016 through small London-based indie label called Regent Street Records.
The title track “Queen Bitch” has already been played on BBC Introducing Essex and “Media Vulture” (the 2nd track on the single) was premiered on Soundart Radio’s Generating Steam Heat show in the UK.
They also joined in solidarity with Eagles of Death Metal covering their “I Love You All The Time” as part of the PAIX project and featured in Round 3 of EODM’s #playitforward campaign. The Muffin Heads’ cover was digitally released globally across all mediums (iTunes, Spotify etc.) by EODM and continues to generate much support for those affected by the Paris attacks in November 2015.
I have given “Queen Bitch” and “Media Vulture” a good listen and can thoroughly vouch for this exciting trio. Their sound harks back to early 90s grunge/punk with audible influences from Sonic Youth and an array of Riot Grrl acts like L7 and Babes in Toyland. Even the artwork takes me back to those days and their logo would have looked great scrawled on the back of my parka.
Front lady Bex belts out some scowling lyrics delivered with raw conviction but the group retain a light-hearted dimension and don’t look anywhere near as scary as they sound. So load up the proverbial baking tray, I’m hungry for more from The Muffin Heads.
