Another Band of the Day with our subjects telling you a little about themselves. Vocalist Tiaday rattled off these responses for us…
Simple things first – where are you guys from?
Hey! Well I’m from Hawai’i, Ryan (guitar) is from Bakersfield, CA and Donovan (bass) is from Coachella, CA.
How did you meet?
Ryan and I met at LA College of Music and Donovan met us off of Facebook responding to our ad for a bass player!
How long have you been playing together as a band?
We started 3 years ago, but our current lineup has been playing for a little over a year.
4. Before you get sick of being asked… where does the band name come from?
Our original lineup had consisted of band members from all around the world so we really wanted to have a name that could represent our diverse cultures. The World Over just felt right and even though our most diverse members couldn’t remain in the band, it still holds true to us in other ways. We will take The World Over one fan at a time!
What are your influences – individually or as a band?
As a band: Deftones, Bring Me The Horizon’s newest album and PVRIS. Individually, Ryan’s current favorite is The Reign of Kindo, mine is Now, Now and Donovan’s is Balance And Composure.
Describe your music. What makes you unique?
Well I think what makes us unique is the big difference between our last record and our new record, Mountains, that we released this week! (available on iTunes, Spotify, iHeartRadio and [amazon text=Amazon&asin=B01KYMWU56]). This new record would have to be under the blanket term of “rock” because it isn’t quite post-hardcore like we used to be. We hope to break some of the boundaries of this genre a little more and reach a broader spectrum of listeners.
Do you have any particular lyrical themes?
I usually don’t have a theme to what I write but most of the time it’s either from my perspective on my life and my experiences like “Liberosis” and “Swervewolf”. But then there are some songs like “Invisible” and “Traitor” that are just me storytelling.
What’s your live show like? How many shows have you played?
We always do our best to put on a show like it’s our last, no matter how big or small the venue. We’ve played at least 30. We try to only do one show per month if we’re not on tour.
What’s the wildest thing you’ve seen or done at a live show?
Every show is a wild show with us. You should come see us sometime! We have a show at Amplyfi in Los Angeles 9/18 – 8pm.
What kit do you use / guitars do you play / etc.? I use a Shure wireless microphone on stage!
Ryan’s gear: 2 John Petrucci signature series Sterling Guitars: JP70d and JP100d. A Line 6 PODHD500X pedal board and a Hughes and Kettner Trilogy head through a 4 by 12 Mesa Boogie cab.
Donovan’s: Fender jazz bass, Sterling Music Man bass, Ampeg B2RE head with an Ampeg 8×10 cab, DBX compressor, and an Audio Technica wireless bass unit
What are your plans for 2016?
We’re focusing on putting together a tour for the new year and promoting our new album, “MOUNTAINS” as much as we can!
If you could be part of any 3-band line-up (as support or headlining) who else would you have on the bill?
It would be ideal if we could be supporting bands like Bring Me The Horizon, PVRIS and Issues!
