Band of the Day: Malediction

Malediction - Chronology of DistortionFor those of you thinking “I remember a band called Malediction from back in the 80’s and 90’s”… this is them. They’re back. But after such a long time, that I think it fair to cover them under the Band of the Day banner.

Formed in 1989, the band released their first EP, System Fear, on Thrash Records. It was the first of a bunch of EPs which ended up selling in excess of 20,000 copies. Not bad by any standards, particularly in the underground scene back then. Their first full album was a live release, unusually, but seeing as the set list was culled from a fair number of EPs it went down pretty well. YOu can actually listen to Chronicles of Dissention on YouTube with the blessing of the band (well, they gave me the link!).

Earlier this year they released Chronology of Distortion, a compilation of EP and demo tracks from 1989 – 1994. You can stream it from Bandcamp and it’s embedded below. If you’d like to buy a copy, head over to Dark Blasphemies Records where you can grab a copy for €10 or email/PayPal who will sell you a CD for a tenner including postage (UK), £12.75 (Europe) or £13.85 (rest of world). They also have some shirts, but definitely mail him first as supplies are limited! MOney raised will help the band do some more cool stuff…

Cool stuff like releasing the previously unreleased debut studio album The Millenium Cotillion! Four of the founder members, now dotted around in places like Yorkshire, Glasgow and Florida, are coming together to work on new material and hope to have some demos ready by Autumn.

So keep it old school and support a band that’s pretty much rising from the dead!
