Crimson Star are a three-piece from Birmingham who play “rock”. Nice and simple, no pretentious attitude and this carries over in their music.
Formed in 2012, they recently finished work on their EP Driven with Romesh Dodangoda (Lower Than Atlantis, Funeral For A Friend). Set for release on February 1st , it’s five tracks of pedal-to-the-metal hard rock – “Driven” indeed. In fact, the title track would be ideal background music for something along the lines of a Need For Speed spinoff.
It is the faster-paced of the songs on offer, with the other showing a breadth of influences as well as tempo. Along with “Driven”, my top two tracks are the emotive “Waste Away” (which reminds me of recently departed band Electric River) and catchy number “Holy Land” with its groove feel and absolutely thumping outro.
With a good history of live performances, including Bike4Life Fest in 2014, Crimson Star are definitely ones to watch for around the Brum area. Maybe we’ll see them on the road sometime!
