Band of the Day: A Joker’s Rage

A Joker's Revenge - Black Sheep[avatar user=”Mosh” size=”50″ align=”left” /]Random choice from the “big list of bands I need to listen to” today, and the lucky winners are A Joker’s Rage from York. The band are close to releasing what I gather is their second EP, Black Sheep. Drop date is November 21st and you can sample “Bounce”, the first single, below.

The band’s ethos seems simple: create catchy, lively, sing-a-long-able rock tunes and then blast them at an audience like some huge metal-driven party. By all accounts they’ve done damn well at this so far, as they finish a well-received headlining tour tonight in Newcastle and have opened for the likes of The Darkness in the past.

Certainly on the evidence of the five tracks on Black Sheep, I’d believe in them. If they can capture the driving rhythms and hooks of the likes of “Bounce” and “Just Another Ghost” and unleash them in a live environment then I can’t see a crowd resisting.

Opener “Bounce” lives up to its name. If there’s a song that’ll have people pogo-ing then it’s this one. The title track is more “in your face”, but none the worse for it, chugging along at a hell of a pace.

Funk factor ten for track three as “Temptress” give you a chance to exercise different muscles.

Lighters out for the obligatory ballad that is “Closure”, and back on with the comfy footwear to bop along then headbang to “Just Another Ghost”.

It’s a cracking little EP and I’d definitely be interested in catching these guys on stage somewhere.
