Band of the Day: House of Hats

House of Hats logoPerhaps not the heavy stuff that many of you look for, but as ever I’m all about variety here. House of Hats are a four-piece playing acoustic music which is quite folky, but shows some great guitar work and excellent vocal harmonies.

Their debut album, This Love, (not to be confused with the Pantera classic!) is out on March 24th through Willow Walk Records. The video below is for the track “King of the Average Pace” which is definitely one of the most upbeat songs from it.

Only performing live since 2012, last year the band played (among others) Cambridge Folk Festival and Secret Garden Party.

Recently a House of Hats track, “Across the Universe”, was used on a feature length film Common People that was spotlighted at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. The band have also just returned from the Netherlands and have received sessions for Radio 1 & 2.

Ray Lamontagne, Johnny Cash and Gillian Welch have been name checked by the band as influences, all undoubtedly true, but House Of Hats have a signature sound of their own.

A five week UK tour has been booked for Feb / March 2014 to promote the new album, with shows from London to the West Country, to Scotland and back.
