New Band of the Day – The Unguided

Drawn for the band by Mel Mohlin

The Unguided - Fragile ImmortalityI like a bit of melodic death. In fact, it would be honest to say that I like a lot of melodic death. Which is fortunate for The Unguided as that’s what they play.

They’re a new band, at least as far as album releases are concerned. Their major label debut, Fragile Immortality, comes out through Napalm Records at the end of Jan/start of Feb (depending on where you live) and is a great collection of songs. The blurb says that the songs are “highly infectious”. I’d say that you’ve effectively got an album full of death metal earworms. Death you can hum. Maybe.

If you’re interested in the band’s history then the bio on their facebook page is about as complete a document as I’ve ever seen for a band. In brief, though, they started in 2010 formed by Richard Sjunnesson, after his departure from Sonic Syndicate. Later, he was joined by Roland Johansson on vocals (also former Sonic Syndicate), guitarist Roger Sjunnesson and current Cipher System bassist Henric Carlsson. The five-piece is completed by current drummer Richard Schill.

With great success with their self-published EP and previous album, Fragile Immortality has a lot to live up to… so it’s a good job that it’s turned out so well! Check out their video below, and keep an eye out for it on the (virtual and real-world) shelves from January 31st.
