I see the description “Backwoods Party Metal” and I think “ooh, that sounds good – parties and metal, all in one place?” And thus I sampled the delights of 44MAG. Distilled in Williamsburg, PA of a 1998 vintage these five old-school metal fans grouped together to play the music they enjoy.
Their sound is a hard and heavy one rather than a full-frontal speed assault. Off the top of my head I’m thinking Texas Hippie Coalition, but with more of a thrash edge in the faster sections.
They won a regional “best live act” award in 2012 and from the quality of their live recordings, it’s easy to see why. There’s not a huge amount of their stuff online to sample, but what there is is worth a listen.
Check ’em out and say “hello” if you like what you hear!
