I hear the word “Winchester” and three things spring to mind: rifles, members-only club from Minder and the pub from Shaun of the Dead. Add to that little collection today’s NBotD, Winchester Rebels.
With a logo that wouldn’t look out of place painted on the side of a redneck’s flatbed and the tagline “Genuine Hard Rock” you pretty much know what you’re going to get from this Santa Barbara 5-piece.
The list of influences (as given on their facefart page) is as eclectic as it comes, but their sound is one of perfectly gritty, traditional rock. It’s a sound that hits you and because it’s so familiar it’s easy to get lost in it. Winchester Rebels won’t win prizes for originality, but they certainly know how to make the most of their chosen field.
Their debut album, Three Sheets To The Wind, has some great tracks on it and is well worth checking out. You can find it linked from their official page, and it’s downloadable from the usual digital sources or you can get a proper shiny disc version direct from the band.
