New Band of the Day: Eureka Machines

Eureka Machines – Remain in Hope

I definitely know where I encountered this lot for the first time – supporting the Wildhearts on their Earth Vs… 20th Anniversary” tour. Sadly, due to the early doors and curfew at the O2 ABC I only caught maybe half of their set. A shame as what I did see quite impressed me.

They made a good support for the Wildhearts with the same upbeat kind of sound. If you like Reel Big Fish, Terrorvision, Bowling For Soup – that kind of thing – then these guys are worth checking out. Big, brash, bouncy and noisy, their tracks are catchy and fun. I already know they can get a crowd going, and I really enjoyed flicking through the tracks and videos they have linked on their official web page.

Similar to Ginger, they’re a band who are using the Pledge Music website to fund their recordings. As a result, if you jump in you can get a bargain on anything new they’re doing. Their current promo is a raffle running on their blog with the “ticket” numbers on the sleeve of the current album. Great idea!

If you’re only into heavy stuff then they’re not likely to appeal, but if you’re open to something that makes you tap your foot or bop around the room then they really are damn good.

Incidentally, they have a couple of live dates coming up this month (April 2013). So if you want to see four guys called Chris Catalyst, Davros (no, not that one), Wayne Insane and Pete Human lifting the gloom on the shittiest Spring in British history, you want to head to:

  • 12th – Keighley Exchange Arts Centre
  • 19th – Darlington Forum
  • 20th – Glasgow Pivo Pivo

I hope they have good locks for the van for the Keighley gig. Dodgy place… ;)

Incidentally, the bio on their facebook page is also worth a read. There are links down the side to a bajillion places where you can listen to their stuff as well. Their web page has a load of videos and other stuff, but I can’t tell you exactly what at the moment as it seems to have died on me. Sorry if I broke it, guys!
