Track-by-Track: Arrow Valley – Embodiment

UK stout alt-rockers Arrow Valley are poised to release their eagerly awaited new EP, Embodiment, which is out on Friday 18th October. The band are comprised of Arron Turner (Vocals), Luke Hatton (Guitar), Nicky Hughes (Guitar), Abbas Ali (Bass), and Mark Harris Bristow (Drums). We exclusively spoke to Arron, Luke and Nicky and asked them to give us a track by track breakdown of this killer EP:

By Design

“By Design” speaks of our evolution in a world built around social media and cultural influence [Arron].

The music provides strong contrasts of dark and light symbolising the ‘metaverse’ versus our natural world, and the intro and pre-chorus is a showcase for Mark Harris Bristow’s blistering double-kick drum speed! [Luke].

Why?

“Why?” began life as a simple phone recording of Arron playing acoustic guitar and singing the chorus, with a vague attempt at playing the guitar riff! [Luke].

Lyrically, Why is reminiscent of my dealings with inner demons pays homage to those who feel lonely [Arron].

The battling of inner demon’s is reflected in the screamed vocals and musically heavy section preceding the final chorus [Luke].

Ode (I See You)

Lyrically, “Ode” is centred around modern societies addiction of seeking validation from online audiences and the subsequent need to heal lack of self-worth [Arron].

The “healing of self-worth” is represented by the musically minimalistic middle-8, followed by the uplifting ending [Luke].

The Killing Fields

“The Killing Fields” is the heaviest song on Embodiment and has more of a focus on screamed vocals and guitar riffs. The heavy musicality supports the lyrical theme of War within Europe, including WW2, as reflected in the samples of Churchill announcing WW2 on British radio, and lyrics regarding Russian’s invasion of Ukraine [Luke].

All Good Things

“All Good Things” is about loss and is a tribute Nick who lost his father at the time the song was written. The song progresses and crescendos to a musical epilogue with the poignant lyrics “photos remind us, memories guide us and I don’t want to see an end to this” [Arron].
